Quilters are "going to town"! In the three months that we have been working on quilts for Lutheran World Relief we have completed 25 quilts!
Some of these quilts will be sent to Mexico with the group going from our Church, to be distributed as needed among the people there. The rest will be mailed to Lutheran World Relief in Minnesota for distribution to disaster and refugee areas worldwide.
"Quilters for LWR" meet every Thursday from 9am to Noon throughout the summer months, and every third Saturday from 2 to 4pm.
YOU CAN HELP! Donations are still needed. Your leftover scraps of fabric, used sheets, pillow cases, mattress covers, or blankets are put together to make colorful quilts. Just drop them in the box in the Narthex that is marked "Lutheran World Relief Quilts."
Better yet join us on Thursday mornings or the third Saturday of the month and see how much fun we have!
Watch for our quilt raffle this fall, which will help raise funds for shipping expenses.
If you have any questions you may call Judy Johnson 220-6749 or Sally Bouchard 360-5062.

To the congregation of Good Samaritan,
That "special" day has finally arrived and we are all very excited. Bob and I want all of you to know that you have been an important part of Tonyas life. Her internship with you was a great experience for her and she often speaks to us of how much she enjoyed her time with you.
So wed like to also say how grateful we are to all of you who cared for her during that year. Shell go to her "first call" in Irene, South Dakota with an optimistic view.
Thanks,
Debbie & Bob Casci

How Many Christians Does it Take to Change a Light Bulb?
Charismatics: Only one. Hands already in the air.
Presbyterians: None. Lights will go on and off at predestined times.
Roman Catholic: None. Candles only.
Unitarians: We choose not to make a statement either in favor of or against the need for a light bulb. However, if in your own journey you have found that light bulbs work for you, that is fine. You are invited to write a poem or compose a modern dance about your personal relationship with your light bulb, and present it next month at our annual light bulb Sunday service, in which we will explore a number of light bulb traditions, including incandescent, fluorescent, three-way, long-life and tinted, all of which are equally valid paths to luminescence.
Methodists: Undetermined. Whether your light is bright, dull, or completely out, you are loved, you can be a light bulb, turnip bulb, or tulip bulb. Church wide lighting service is planned for Sunday, August 19th. Bring bulb of your choice and a covered dish.
Lutherans: None. Lutherans dont believe in change.
Amish: Whats a light bulb?

Faith makes things possible, not easy
From
our Intern
Dear friends,
For Anja and me, the time will come soon to say good-bye. I can hardly believe it, but on August 15th I will depart to Germany and these precious nine months of internship at Good Samaritan Lutheran Church will be over. Its sad, because now I feel a lot more comfortable with the English language, I know most of your names, some of your stories and Ive made many friends among our congregation. I am very grateful to you all, for you have welcomed me wholeheartedly and looked with grace and tolerance on my occasional struggles with the language and culture. The internship has taught me many useful things for my future ministry. You all know by now that, once I have finished all my exams at the end of this year, I am planning to go into the mission field. I still dont know where Anja and I will be sent, but we are both looking forward to it. The time here in a foreign country with its distinct cultural traditions and different church structure has broadened our minds and given us many insights we didnt have before.
When you receive this newsletter, we will be in Mexico building the first house for a family in need. Thank you again for all your spiritual and financial support. Without your help we would not have been able to go on this mission trip. I hope that many more houses will be built by Good Samaritan Lutheran Church in the future, and that our congregation will get more involved in projects that contribute to better society.
